At the start of this book Greg and Rodrick get in trouble so there parents didn't let them go on vacation with them Rodrick then had a party and someone spray painted the bathroom door so when there parents rang them up to say they are coming home early they had to change the bath room door.

Then after that Rodrick started to be nice to Greg and they had lots of fun and they promised that they wouldn't tell there Mum or Dad but one time Greg told there Mum but told her not to tell Dad or Rodrick but The Dad found out latter on in the book and told every one in the family so the Mum told Dad and Rodrick that she already new about it and right at that moment Greg new there friendship was over but Greg only had one way to settle there friendship Greg  would have to participate in the school contest he did it with rowley witch is his best friend he did it and Rodrick forgave him
